Haunted Forest

The Haunted Forest is a substantial woodland lying north of the Wall, beyond the northern border of the Seven Kingdoms. The forest extends for several hundred miles to the north, along the foothills of the mountain range known as the Frostfangs, before dying out in the subarctic wastelands of the Lands of Always Winter.

The Fist of the First Men

The Fist of the First Men is a landmark in the wilderness beyond the Wall. It is an ancient ring fort located at the crown of a defensible round hill with an excellent view of the surrounding countryside. Ranging parties from the Night's Watch use it to orient themselves and also as a possible fallback position in case of combat with the Free Folk. It can only be reached by a steep climb on stony ground. It has served as a natural defensive position since the time of the First Men.

Frostfangs

The Frostfangs, also known as the Frostfang Mountains, are a mountain range in the far north of the continent of Westeros. The southern peaks and foothills extend into the North of the Seven Kingdoms, but the majority of the range is located north of the Wall in wildling territory. The bulk of the mountain range lies to the northwest of the Wall between the Lands of Always Winter to their west and the Haunted Forest to their east. They are named for their jagged peaks. Wildlings are thought to know hidden valleys that can provide shelter when crossing the mountains.

Milkwater

The Milkwater is a river located beyond the Wall. It is created from several tributaries that originate in the Frostfangs, and runs south along the mountain range until it pours its waters into the Bay of Ice. It carves a deep gorge through the mountains as it empties into the sea at the western end of the Wall, which is guarded by the Shadow Tower.

Lands of Always Winter

The Lands of Always Winter is a colloquial and not rigidly-defined name given to the lands that lie in the furthest north of the continent of Westeros. They are so-named as snow falls in these lands even in the warmest summers. The wildlings control some of this territory, but it also extends into subarctic wastelands that are not hospitable to human life. These lands are said to lie north of even the Haunted Forest and the Frozen Shore, beyond the Wall. The White Walkers may originate in this region.

Frozen Shore

The Frozen Shore is the name given to the northern coastline of the Bay of Ice, located beyond the Wall in the far northwest of Westeros. It is inhabited by wildlings. It is separated from the Haunted Forest and the Wall by the mountain range known as the Frostfangs. The Skirling Pass links the Haunted Forest to the Frozen Shore. The Lands of Always Winter lie to the north.
